Qatar has an arid desert climate, characterized by scorching, humid summers (May-September) with temperatures frequently exceeding 40°C (104°F), and mild, dry winters (December-February) with average temperatures between 20-25°C (68-77°F). Rainfall is sparse and unpredictable, occurring mainly in brief, heavy winter storms, sometimes leading to flooding. The country also experiences strong winds, which can bring dust and sandstorms.
Language
Arabic is the official language of Qatar, but English is widely spoken as a second language.
Money
The Qatari riyal is the official currency of Qatar. It is known by the currency code QAR. The Qatar Riyal (QAR) has both coin and banknote denominations, with coins available as 1, 5, 10, 25, and 50 dirhams. The banknotes are issued in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 50, 100, 200, and 500 riyals. Credit cards are widely used and accepted, even in the Medina.
TRAVEL ESSENTIALS
Electricity
In Qatar, the standard voltage is 240V and the frequency is 50Hz. The electrical sockets are Type G, which feature three rectangular pins arranged in a triangular pattern. You will need a converter if your electrical appliances operate on a lower voltage, unless it has dual voltage. You will also need an electrical adapter if your plugs are not Type G.

DOHA
Doha, the dazzling capital of Qatar, blends futuristic architecture with deep-rooted Arabian heritage. Along its scenic Corniche waterfront, sleek skyscrapers rise beside the traditional Souq Waqif, where visitors can wander through stalls of spices, textiles, and gold. The city’s cultural side shines through the Museum of Islamic Art and the striking National Museum of Qatar, both architectural masterpieces that tell the story of the region’s past and vision for the future. The Pearl-Qatar offers luxury shopping and dining on an artificial island, while nearby Katara Cultural Village hosts art exhibitions, performances, and beachside cafés. Beyond the city, visitors can take a desert safari to the Inland Sea (Khor Al Adaid), where dunes cascade dramatically into turquoise waters, or visit Al Zubarah Fort, a UNESCO-listed site that recalls Qatar’s trading history. Doha’s blend of innovation, culture, and natural beauty makes it a truly captivating Middle Eastern destination.
